, The Guiness Book of World Records is a yearly published book that tells about the many different record setting events, people, places, things, etc. This series of books reveals the achievements of mankind as well as worldly extremities.

This yearly account of historic moments from around the globe was first rendered in Great Britain. It was brought to life by many different contributors of many different professions such as journalists and athletes. While The Guinness Book of World Records gained its popularity in Great Britain, the book originated at the Guiness brewery.

The initial intent of the Guiness Book of World Records was to settle disputed bar bets. While the company may be known for its famous brewing, Guinness saw an opportunity to turn this new fad into a book and more importantly, turn it into profit.

Managing Director Sir Hugh Beaver was attending party, when he found himself in a disagreement about whether the golden plover or the grouse was faster.

While Sir Beaver was in his house that evening, He came to the conclusion that reference books were did not contain the information necessary to confirm either side of the dispute.

Then was when he concluded that making this book could become a very popular trend and immediately went to work. You should very well know what happened after this.

Since the birth of this book, Guinness has produced and sold millions of copies and has become one of the most well known books of all time. The book itself has even set a world record for being the world's best selling series.

Although it is not a record, the Guiness Book of World Records is one of the most stolen books in US public libraries.
