The Positive Benefits Of Electric Cars

The electric car design is not a new or groundbreaking one

. The initial designs for cars were to be powered by electricity or batteries until the internal combustion engine edged out the electric vehicle from being considered as the conventional car design for the market.

Recent studies have shown that internal combustion engine car has been one of the major sources of pollution in the world today. The carbon monoxide emissions contribute to the greenhouse effect leading to increasing global temperatures. Furthermore, the extraction of oil and its processing contributes to the creation of many pollutants that contaminate nature now and in the future.

In opting for the electric car as the main mode of transportation, many of the problems created by the gasoline powered car are removed. Here are some of the benefits created by the electric car.

a)Energy Efficiency. Electric cars consume energy much more efficiently compared to regular engine cars. The electric car motor can convert 75% of the stored energy in batteries to move the motor. On the other hand, internal combustion engine cars only converts 20% of the energy from the fuel it uses up and most of the energy is lost as heat energy during the process. This energy efficiency is important for a sustainable as well as better performance vehicle for the market today.

b)Environment Friendliness. Internal combustion engines produce as waste carbon monoxide and other chemicals through the tailpipe. Electric cars on the other hand do not produce any waste, as the EV does not even have a tailpipe in its design. In addition, extracting and processing the oil produces pollution unlike electricity that charges the battery of the electric vehicle.

c)Performance Quality. Unlike internal combustion engines that over time become gas-guzzlers, electric cars provide a quiet, efficient and smooth drive even after some time. The electric car has only a few moving parts, unlike the gasoline powered engine where there are many moving parts that often degrade over time. This in turn lowers the maintenance needs and cost of the electric car. Every so often, an internal combustion engine would be required to undergo a maintenance check up to keep the engine running smoothly.

d)Reduction on Direct Oil Dependence. With internal combustion engines, the gasoline pumped into the car is often imported and processed in another country. Thus, the operation of conventional cars is reliant on foreign imported oil to be usable. On the other hand, electric cars use electricity to charge batteries of the vehicle. Electricity is not fully dependent on foreign fuel imports as electrical power can be generated from wind, nuclear and other local sources.

e)Savings for the User. At the outset, the electric car is much more expensive compared to the regular car sticker price. This though is balanced out by the many tax credits and benefits provided for electric car purchases. This front loaded cost though is one time only compared to the long-term expense entailed with rising fuel costs for the internal combustion engine. Depending on the location, electricity is still much cheaper compared to gasoline as fuel to power your car.
