The Process Of Animal Painting
Giving a gift has a built in hazard
Giving a gift has a built in hazard. A waiting period is usually inevitable before you notice the person liking the gift or not. If the gift was addressed to the president then there would be more weight on your shoulders. Bringing her gift with her, she even had to sign for a visitor's pass prior to going in. The package was of Little Man the president's horse and the guard was then the one in charge of finally delivering it to him.
It is her animal portraits that got people into her art and she now lives in Old National Pike with her family. Being interested in animals and portraits this artist is now making a business out of it. Successfully her money making business is doing really well currently.
With pastels, this artist uses photographs of the animals as reference for her work. Many of her horse portraits have been done from show photos. After working with various animals such as horses, cats, dogs, a goat, parakeets and guinea pigs, she claims they all have a special place with her. The next challenge that she wants to try out is creating portraits of fishes and turtles using oil paints. Being a veteran in the industry she has the ability to enhance the features of the animal making it more pleasing to the eye.
Having written the president's wife for a copy of a photo of Little Man, she had this idea for a few months now. About six weeks later, she received a reply from the Special Assistant to the President and Director of Correspondence, along with some color publicity stills of the President with the horse. She was not used to working with the photos she was given. Normally part of her job was to meet the animal personally and get to know they and also take note of color and other things as a picture us not enough.
However, the project had just gotten underway when she heard that Little Man had died. For her, she just wants the portrait to mean something to the president now. She continued with the portrait anyway, began the work and divided it roughly into four stages. Using a pastel, she made lines that marked where the dark, medium and light shadow tones were. With her fingers she carefully blended in the color making sure the parts she wanted was covered well.
Having the right background color was important and for this portrait light blue was chosen. The most crucial step was to make sure the portrait looked authentic. She says she spent a lot of time putting in detail, making the hair look like hair or fur, just getting the image as close as possible to reality.
She was happy having completed the portrait of Little Man. In Poolesville is where she stables her one and only horse. Apart from that she also has a cat, a dog and a goat. She has a lot of happiness as all gift givers do for having given the president her work.
