One of the most important steps to playing the best golf you can play is to know what the proper golf grip for you is. This is not always the same for everybody and this is very important because it is what connects you to the club. Your grip must be solid and must set you up for success or you will struggle to ever hit the golf ball very well. Here are some tips to get you started.

First, you must understand that there are three basic grip styles. You can use what is known as a baseball grip and this will be a very unconnected grip just like if you were to grip a baseball bat. The two types of grips that are most common in great golfers is the interlocking grip where your pinky finger and index finger actually lock together, and the overlapping grip where the pinky finger overlaps the index finger of the top hand.

Second, the proper golf grip is different for everybody, but the most common is a strong grip because most golfers have a natural tendency to slice or fade the golf ball. Having a stronger grip will help to keep you from doing this. Now a strong grip does not mean you hold the club tighter. Instead it means that the "V" created by your index finger and your thumb on both hands should point towards your back should and you should be able to see at least 2 knuckles from your top hand when you look down.

Last, understand that the grip is one of the most important parts of the golf swing and you must have the proper golf grip for yourself and your swing. This means that you may needs some professional help to make sure you have the grip that is right for you and will set you up for more success. Once you have this grip you can move on to other parts of your swing.
