. A dark, crowded room where talking is taboo huh. Not exactly the most ideal place to get to know someone. However studies have shown that the right kind of movie can actually make your date more attracted to you.

Genres and Types of Movies to Avoid

Romantic Comedies: I know, I know, the latest Meg Ryan film might seem like the perfect movie to see with your crush. Romantic comedies feature male roles that are impossible to live up to for almost anyone. Adult Comedies: These can go either way, but I would generally avoid them for a first date. Movies like The Hangover

and Horrible Bosses are hilarious, but they push the boundaries and often crack jokes at sensitive subjects or use profanity that might be just as shocking to some as gore is to others. Wait to see these kind of movies until you are comfortable with the person.

Wall-e or Up both have great characters, stories, and humor that keep adults (at least adults like me) entertained as much as any kid.

Historical Dramas: Drop some knowledge and show how your worldliness and sophistication by taking your date to the next Kings Speech or Lincoln. These stories that highlight the those who have defined history are engaging and can spark great conversations before and after the film.

Thrillers: Special effects have made supernatural thrillers like Paranormal Activity almost too real, and psychological thrillers can up the tension in the theatre like no other genre can. This might seem like a bad movie date idea, but studies have actually shown that when people get an adrenaline rush from the environment they can project that heightened sense to the person they are with. This means that your date will be more likely to attribute those butterflies in their stomachs to you.
