The Purpose Of Sunrooms
Do you have a part of your house with southern exposure that just seems like it could benefit by having something else
? Would you like to have some more space in the house, where you could just sit and enjoy yourself and soak up the sunshine? That sounds like a relaxing thing to do, but how can it be done? Have you ever considered putting a sunroom in the house?
Sunroom Basics
Now, a sunroom doesn't have to be on the south side of the house, but it helps. Since the sun shines to the southernmost part of your house and keeps it the warmest, it would make the most sense. If there is a room on the east or west side of the house, you could still add a sunroom on to enjoy the sunshine in the first or last part of the day, depending on where you put it. The north side of the house could still have a sunroom, but it wouldn't technically get much sun or stay that warm.
A sunroom typically has more windows than wall space. The windows can be regular windows similar to what you have in the rest of the house, just closer together with very little dry wall. One of the sides or two sides of the room could have a large window, or many windows. There could even be windows in the roof to let in more sunlight.
Sunrooms Have Many Designs
The more common sunroom look will have a framed roof part that is made of glass or heavy duty plastic that curves down and also makes a wall. There is no wall space and there is only access to the sun. The windows are usually tinted slightly, to keep the person sitting inside the sunroom warm from the heat coming in, but not blinded by the glare of the sun's rays.
A sunroom can also have a blend of the special steel and glass design in combination with a wall. Some people call it a three season room, so that they can use it in the warmer months of the year and have windows open, usually with a screen.
Other people prefer to have it as a regular part of their house to use all of the time, with walls and the glass panels that do not open. A sunroom can be designed to stick out of the back of the house so three sides are exposed to the sun or so that only the roof and one side are exposed. A builder or a contractor can work with many ideas you have to come up with the best sunroom design for your home.
Sunroom Ideas
People use sunrooms for a variety of things. They can be used to grow a lot of plants since the sun comes in and warms it up. The plants have all day access to the sun. It can also be used as a reading room, where you can curl up in a chair in the sun and enjoy a good book, even on a cold day if the sun is shining. A sunroom can also be a warm place where the kids can bring out their toys and play all day, without even realizing it is winter.
