Superstition is a kind of a belief which is not based on any objective explanation

. Students have a weakness to different mystical escapes from difficult situations.

Let us consider the reasons of such phenomena in students culture, as superstitions.

1.First of all, each student of every nationality in this or that way has a fear of examinations. It is natural to be afraid of unknown, so an examination day becomes a real doomsday for students. That is why they not only study, cramming and borrowing notes to pass the exam, but also perform ritual rites.

2.Some students believe that this or that action helps them in different spheres of their study. If a student sees the connection between some action and a success he/she is definitely to repeat this action once again. That is why the past lucky experience influences the present.

3.Many students suffer from importunate thought about misfortune, so they need such rituals in order to calm them down.

4.Foreign students studying in alien surrounding needs something to support them. Sometimes they resort to rituals from their native culture, sometimes they prefer local superstitions.

5.Each culture is rich in myths, and they are transferred from culture to subculture, including students subculture.

6.Mass media creates different movies, TV commercials, radio and TV programmes and shows, totally focused on mystical element. These factors influence students.

7. Tons of books are about good-luck, fortune and misfortune, mystical creatures which help with different cases. A mystic is all around us, everywhere where imagination may put it. There is no wonder that students have a belief.

8. Various images are created in a human consciousness.

9.Laughter is one of the most powerful mechanisms of psychological defense. Besides, people always seek something unusual which would make other people laugh. Quite often anecdotes and jokes are based on superstitious. People laugh but believe.
