The Red Winter Jacket

They met on a train

They met on a train. They are studying in different cities. It takes 23 hours from her city to his city. He was studying in her hometown, while she was studying in another city. They would see each other during summer vacation and winter vacation when she came back to her hometown. Once he bought her a winter jacket, it was red. Then she bought him a red winter jacket too. When they wear the red jackets together, they really look like boyfriend and girlfriend.

On a winter evening, when she was studying in the library, she got a message from him. He told her that he was outside of her school gate. She was very excited. He asked her to go out to see him. She hesitated for a moment, told him that she needed 20 minutes. He said: "I came here with my friends tonight. Can you come quickly? Because they are not going to wait for me." She did not want to go to the gate directly, because she needed to change her coat. She wanted to wear the read winter jacket, and she wanted to look good in front of him. So she told him:" I will be there in 20 minutes." She left the library and run to the dorm to change the coat and maybe put a little make up on. 10 minutes later, she had it done and was about to leave the dorm, he told her that he left. She was very sad. At first she blames him for not waiting for her. Then she thought that she should have gone to see him directly, instead of wasting the time.

On valentine's day, he asked her:" Is there anyone with you today?" She said:" No". How about you?" "Yes. I am sorry I have a girlfriend now." He said. Suddenly she felt very heavy and could not speak another word. After that day, they did not talk to each other often. Sometimes he would ask her:" Are you angry with me? I am sorry." She never told him that she was angry, but she already showed that she was very upset by not talking to him.

After they graduated, he went to work in Dubai. She asked him when he is going to come back. He said he will be back to China by the end of this year. "Maybe he will get married once he comes back." She guessed.

Sometimes she will ask herself:" Do I love him? If I love him, why did not I tell him what I am feeling? Does he love me? If he loves me, why doesn't he wait for me? Does he know that I will go to any place where he goes after graduation? I did not tell him what I think; probably he thinks I do not want to stay with him. Is it my entire fault?" She starts blame herself. With time goes by, he is fading away from her mind. If love has great power, she will confess to him. Probably the love is not that strong.

She still keeps the read jacket, but does not wear it any more. Whenever she sees the red winter jacket, she will wonder:" Does he still have the jacket?"
