Facebook, the immensely popularsocial networkingwebsite has taken the world by storm ever since it was launched in February 2004. Users can add people as friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. Currently, Facebook has more than 400 million users worldwide. This phenomenal concept was initiated by Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook was founded by Zuckerbergwith his college roommates and fellow computer science studentsEduardo Saverin,Dustin Moskovitzand Chris Hughes.

Facebook, its creation, its founders are now being translated to celluloid in the movie, The Social Network'. The movie is gaining popularity as the Facebook Movie'. Though primarily about Facebook, the movie is partly based on the book The Accidental Billionaires. The film depicts the formative years of Facebook, right from the time it was founded by Zuckerberg in his dorm room in Harvard, its initial rise to its overwhelming success. A Columbia Pictures production, the film has been written by Aaron Sorkin and is directed by David Fincher. Jesse Eisenberg plays Zuckerberg in the film. The film is expected to hit the theatres in October.

The tag line for the film, "You can't make 500 million friends without making a few enemies" explains the initial days of Facebook, and the film. The tag line also hints at the younger generation trying to create a larger than life persona of themselves that entails loyalty, jealousy and money. Columbia Pictures has just released the first trailer for the film, The Social Network alongwith the poster for the film. Though the teaser does not reveal much about the film and the plot, it is certainly intriguing and will generate curiosity amongst movie goers.

Much like the networking site itself, the movie too is generating controversy about its worthiness as a film. The makers of the film have justified this by pointing out how much Facebook dominates online communication today! The makers also say that since movies are a social experience, a movie about a social network and the social factors, stories and melodramas that went into the founding of that network makes it a good subject for a film!
