The word spa has been around for centuries
The word spa has been around for centuries. It has been associated with the use of water, usually medicinal, to treat various maladies and complaints. It may have originated from a town with the same name in the country of Belgium. The water from the said town in specific areas can be used for drinking while people dip in pools to treat their ailments.
These areas are still around although mainly in countries or places in which you would have to spend several days in to really appreciate and get the full restorative powers of. There are alternatives to the more traditional restorative facilities found in almost every city in the world.
Day Spa
This type of health facility is more common than the one that has been around for centuries. One can go in and spend several hours here to have restorative treatments ranging from facials, body massages, skin treatments and many others. The use of alternative forms of medicines and treatments are commonly applied in these establishments.
People who usually go there do not have any immediate need for medical treatment which may necessitate a doctor or a surgeon. There is a need to relieve stress and relax, though, which is one of the primary concerns here. Herbal and medicinal aspects of alternative medicines are used for most establishments of this nature.
Medical Spa
These establishments usually deal with forms of therapy that are more inclined to medical treatments. These include medical peels, laser therapy and other invasive forms of therapies. Dermatologists are usually employed here as well as other professionals who may be well versed with massage therapies based on medical studies.
An example of these is physical therapy massage, among others. Weight loss and skin care are the most common targets of a medical spa, although there are also other services which may be different from these.
Both kinds of establishments are often combined as one to better cater to the needs of clientele. There are several alternative forms of therapy that are mobilized in these places.
Aromatherapy is one popular form which is used with or without the knowledge of the client. In many cases, a diffuser is used to emit the scent and it permeates the entire room or area where the clients are.
A relaxing scent is usually used for an overall calming effect. It makes you feel totally refreshed, revitalized and full of energy.
