The Spanish Language

Most people in the world think that English is among the most important language in term of number of people using it as their native language

. We are not talking about which language two people coming from a non English speaking country use or what language people speak when they go abroad.

English is actually the second most spoken language in the world after Chinese.

Very few people know that for instance, Spanish is coming in third position in the language ranking. The language is spoken by around five hundred million people around the world whether it is on the internet or in a normal conversation.

Most Spanish speakers can be found in Latin America due to the history of Spain and the colonization of this part of the world. It is also becoming increasingly popular in Northern America as a lot of Mexican for example have emigrated to the United States of America. In some cities, Spanish is often spoken more often than English.

Spanish is also spoken in Asia and Africa but on a smaller percentage than in America.

For those who do not know much about the Spanish language, lets have a quick summary.

Spanish as we call it actually is Castilian. Even if it is spoken throughout Spain, people will tend to speak their own language in other areas of Spain than Castile. For example, people in Barcelona will speak Catalan, which is fairly similar to Castilian.

Spanish is a language that has the same roots as French or Italian for example, which are Romance languages. On the other hand, English and German are Germanic languages.

Like any other language, the Spanish language has evolved when spoken in the various parts of the world. For instance, Argentinean will have a specific accent and will have some different words from Spanish.

There are many places where you can follow Spanish language courses, and you do not necessarily need to go abroad to do so. It exists various language schools in the United Kingdom for example where you can learn Spanish. You can learn Spanish in London, in Manchester, in Liverpool and other big cities around the country. London being a very big city, there are various language schools offering Spanish courses in London.

Like for English it can be very useful to know how to speak Spanish, especially if you like to travel around the world. It is also used a lot in the business world.
