Glass and Swarovski beads can be truly captivating when worn correctly

, and can make you feel a million dollars. However, both kinds of beads have very different stories.

The Glass Bead

Glass beads first came to light, in the 15th Century when the technique called lamp working was first discovered. The beads were made by blowing air into a flame (although, there is a myth that the first ever bead was made when somebody accidentally dropped a piece of glass into a fire).

Then in the 17th and 18th Century, Britain and the rest of Europe began to trade glass beads with Africa. The beads were often referred to as trade, angry and sometimes even slave beads, due to the fact that they were used to trade goods and slaves. They were made in Europe and then shipped over to Africa; and quickly became very popular there, mainly because they were made from glass; which was an unusual and precious material in most parts of Africa. The production of slave (trade) beads became so popular that literally thousands of these Glass beads were used for this purpose.

The Swarovski Bead

Swarovski Crystal beads however, have a much different story. Swarovski Crystal(also known as Austrian crystal) is one of the most recognized names in crystal in the world. Noted for its unique colors and sparkling clarity its no wonder that their beads and other forms of jewelry are sought after by collectors around the world. As with everything though, this particular bead also has a fascinating history.

At the end of the 19th Century a bohemian born man, named Daniel Swarovski invented the automatic cutting machine, which later led him to establish his own company with the aim to work with crystals and the manufacturing of decorative stones made from crystal. Swarovski's beads are 100% man made, and one of the main reasons they sparkle so much is due to the fact that they are fully loaded. Swarovski's crystal beads are often used to decorate dresses, shoes and handbags. Which means they have entered the realm of haute-couture, featuring in James Bond movies, on Hollywood celebs and at Oscar nights. Swarovski beads have become a must have item, for any fashion conscious glamour girl.

Although both glass and Swarovski beads have two very different yet amazing stories, there is still no doubt that they both make beautiful pieces jewelry, which will simply blow your friends away.
