The Stress Response Can Cause Panic Symptoms
Too much stress and anxiety can lead to panic symptoms
. Everybody gets stressed out now and again and it can make us feel a little crazy. Going through divorce, losing a job, moving home; these can be severely stressful times.Life has a habit of throwing up obstacles when we least need them and make daily life a bit of a nightmare.
The body's stress response can react quickly like putting your hand into a pot of boiling water. Instantly your body sends your brain warning signals; your brain registers extreme heat and pain, and you pull away your hand. You might experience panic symptoms; your heart begins to pound, your eyes dilate and you start to breathe harder. The exact same chemical response occurs when you encounter any other threat.
The fight of flight response can keep us on our toes and make us take action when we'd otherwise not. The stress response is important in that it helps us keep track of time and deadlines and makes us aware of threats. Children can be highly mischievous and unaware of dangers around them. Looking after a small child can be hard work and a little fearful especially if they like to run around a lot. Suddenly the room that you're in becomes a hazard zone.
You scan the room for any potential hazards; loose wires, sharp corners and dangerous objects, and you remove them. When the child is about to do something dangerous, such as trap their fingers in the drawer, the same stress response kicks into action. A jolt of adrenaline surges through your body and you switch to your natural instincts rather than conscious thought.
Prolonged stress is much like sticking your hand in a cool pan of water and slowly heating it up to boiling point. As stress hormones slowly elevate we become increasingly affected by the symptoms. It can manifest into physical symptoms such as aches, pains, diarrhea and colds. Panic symptoms are very similar to symptoms of stress because they are both determined by the same chemical response.
Stress and anxiety can keep you awake at night. When you're anxious and stressed it can make you feel alert even if you're completely exhausted. Adrenaline and stress hormones are produced making muscles tense and the mind alert. They may have thoughts of dread and worry and find it difficult to relax as if they're ready to explode.
Instead of dealing with stress, most people pay no attention until they develop panic symptoms or other problems. Everyone should learn to cope with stress naturally, whether it be through exercise, relaxation or self help methods. Our mind and body can be affectedly greatly by excess stress hormones in the body. Those that are stressed daily are at high risk of developing depression, anxiety disorders, obesity and cardiovascular problems.
