The Tea Party Has A Pinpointed Agenda Snip Government Spending
Freedom Works is the prime Tea Party organizing body
. Its chairperson is Richard K. Arney. Recently he spent an evening in a room of Embassy Suites near Pittsburgh Airport talking to about three hundred activists.
He had taken the flight from his home in Dallas not to discuss about deficits, debts or even about Obama but to laud a suggestion that the Pennsylvania Legislature should permit children to make use of vouchers to pay for their private schooling. Those attending the gathering wore the typical T-shirts of the party with the legend Dont Tread on Me. The scarves and hats were American flags. The participants promised Armey that they would give their backing to the bill.
Six months previously the candidates backed by the Tea Party had been swept to power based on pinpointed agenda snipping government spending. Freedom Works is now focusing on the states where the group has developed a lot of clout to push forward a fresh lot of Republican legislators to bring out some conservative changes that have been sought after for a long time.
Freedom Works has two goals keeping the activists busy so as to be ready to enter the 2012 fray with connections at the grass root level and secondly to make use of those already ensconced in power to accomplish some of the goals. One of its successes has been to curtail the public unions bargaining power in Pennsylvania as well as in Ohio and Wisconsin.
Freedom Works is based in Washington and has been operation for over 25 years. It was one of the pioneers to realize the potential strength of the Tea Party in the early part of 2009. It soon took this opportunity to become a political entity having clout.
Currently some of the new Republican entrants in the House owe their thanks to Freedom Works. A good number of activists also across the country have become, thanks to it, trained to become campaigners all through 2010. The priority now is to keep the group well oiled and ready. Speaking to the crowd Armey said, If we dont win in the next two years, if we dont win in the states, we will grievously undermine our ability to win at the national level. We have been able to demonstrate to legislators at all levels of government that we are a force of commitment and conviction, and were going to stay on the job.
