. Before the quartz watches, the pendulum clock was used as a whole, however, that did not give as accurate a time as was required. On the contrary, the quartz watches provided more accurate time to people.

The basic principal of the quartz watches was similar to the previous watches. Pendulums were used in earlier watches to oscillate at a fixed frequency. It is very necessary to allow the oscillations to regulate and keep a fixed time. The mass manufacturing of the quartz watches began in the late 1970s. The quartz watches also required oscillations to keep it in the proper working order.

To understand the technical functions of the quartz watch, you must first be aware of what is a quartz watch. Quartz crystals are extremely precise and accurate crystals that are used in quartz watches. The quartz watch basically consists of a small battery that is used to activate tiny crystal quartz. This battery helps exert mechanical pressure on the quartz crystal.

The quartz crystals found in the quartz watch are well-known to be piezoelectric. The term piezoelectric can more precisely be explained as the suitable mechanical force required to be exerted on the quartz crystal during the use of the battery, so that it can generate the proper amount of electrical charge required to put the quartz crystals into motion. Once the electrical charge is emitted it causes speedy vibrations which are converted into energy by the microcomputer chip which is installed in the watch. This complete process enables the watch to function normally.

The quartz crystals have such an appearance that they can easily be cut into the required standard of size, form and shape. The method and approach in which these quartz crystals are cut determines their quality and the ability to accurately wobble a few thousand times per second. All these mentioned qualities of the quartz crystals make them tremendously steady oscillatory resonators that are proficient at maintenance of precise time, this type of superiority was absent in the former contrived clocks and watches which used the pendulum.

The quartz crystal is designed in such a way so as to obtain a natural oscillation of 32,000 Hz (hertz). It is basically fashioned out of silicon dioxide and is shaped in the form of a small bar. As described earlier, it is the oscillatory movement that allows electrical signals to be generated. Within the watch is a circuit that takes care of further process. This circuit performs division of these electrical signals in such a manner so as to make them appear in a required frequency.

This frequency is then converted into pulses. These pulses are then sent onto the quartz watch display. Sometimes, when the watch is designed differently, these pulses are sent to a motor that allows movement in the "seconds" hand of the watch.

The best feature about these quartz watches is that they are uncomplicated and precise. These watches do not require too much hassle in their functionality and are easy to take care of. Another great feature of these watches is that they can be fully functional in any type of surroundings with out any difficulties, these watches are also less costly to assemble and they do not require too much maintenance to function properly.
