They love a lot of water and live in grasslands where they have a lot of prey. They love swimming and spend lots of time in pools of water cooling off. This is unlike other cats. They are very good swimmers. They are carnivores and prey on light animals such as impalas, gazelles and other cats such as the leopard. There swift speed is there most distinctive feature. The Tigers are very solitary animals. They have a white spot on the backs of their ears. They are also known as Panthera Tigris. They are natives of Asia and the word Tigris comes from the river Tigris. The word also means arrow referring to the animal's great speed. The tiger has several subspecies. The one from Siberia also known as the Siberian tiger is the largest and they way about 384kgs. The one found in India and Bangladesh is known as the royal Bengal tiger. Tigers from china are smaller and darker. They are known as Corbetts. The male weighs around 150 kgs while the female weighs around 140 kgs. Tigers can normally be found in India, China, Siberia, Iran, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, and Southern Asia. The Sumatran tiger can only be found in Sumatra and it is highly endangered. They are confined to the area's national parks and are estimated to be only about 400-500.
