The Trend Setting Volvo Model

Volvo as a brand and its cars are renowned for their safety features

, the Swedish car company was the first to introduce 3 point seatbelts for all occupants. Unfortunately Volvo was also seen as a boring and boxy car producer with its models being sold to the older generation. Clearly, this is an image that no car manufacturer wants, especially as the good looking and trendy demand for cars recently. If you do not look good, and feel exclusive then people will not want you!

In 1998 when Volvo introduced the first generation S80 it challenged itself to produce a car that breaks out of the Volvo mould of boxy and boring. The S80 was quickly recognised as the first Volvo to depart from the company's traditionally very boxy, conservative styling. The S80 has pronounced beltlines and tail lights that narrow and go from curves to points as they go up. This look has now become very popular amongst all new Volvo models. It seemed to kick start a trend that the Volvo fans liked and a style that Volvo felt dragged them out of the previous style.

Even with its new design philosophy the S80 was able to uphold Volvos impeccable safety benchmark. The first S80 had one of the highest crash test ratings in the world for five years straight. The second generation Volvo S80 has been on sale since 2006 and is the current model, again it challenged the old Volvo stereotype with clean lines and adventurous curves.

Again, with its new design the S80 still has a high level of safety equipment, in fact since its launch the new Volvo S80 has won many accolades recognising its key safety features. Including the IIHS 2007 Top Safety Pick Award in overall safety protection. Volvos opinion and aim to divert away for unattractive cars has luckily not overshadowed the need of a car to be safe and comfortable. If these elements where lost then Volvo would risk severely damaging their brand, reputation and lose a large share of their loyal customers.

As well as pioneering key safety features Volvo is now challenging other manufacturers when it comes to miles per gallon and CO2 emissions. This month Volvo has made a new 1.6 litre turbo diesel engine available for the S80. The 1.6 litre turbo diesel has 114 bhp and can do over 60 MPG. The efficiency of an engine and a low C02 emission is very fashionable at the moment across car buyers. This is dues to tighter budgets of people and also a large buzz around the conservation of the planet. People are much more conscious of what they are pumping into the worlds atmosphere.
