The 2010 Atlantic basin hurricane season has begun, and the first storm of 2010 named Alex, was born in the northwestern Caribbean.
The nature has spoken, and its child has begun to grow, it will get rain and wind to western Caribbean islands, the Yucatan Peninsula and parts of Central America this weekend. And possibly will redevelop in the southern Gulf of Mexico next and probably becoming the first hurricane of the season.
The heavy rain is most of the time the greatest threat with a tropical storm and that's the case with Tropical storm Alex.
Imagine a big amount of water falling during a short amount of time. The result will be flash flooding and mudslides
Meteorologists can't tell if the storm will re-emerge after landfall, whether the system will be able to then intensify into the first hurricane of the season and whether it will affect the region of the Gulf, dealing with the massive oil spill.
"The greatest nightmare with this storm approaching is that it takes this oil on the surface of the Gulf and blows it over the barrier islands into the bays and the estuaries," Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., told CNN. "And that is where you really get the enormous destruction, because it's just very difficult to clean up those pristine bays."
June is considered early in the season for tropical storms and hurricane but active seasons always starts early.
