The majority of businesses that turn to telemarketing are ones that need instant results. Perhaps they are in a sales trough' and need to fill capacity; or their industry is quiet and they need sales urgently.
Telemarketing does take time do work and needs to be given the space and chance to do what it can do.
The Problem
Telemarketing is expensive (costing 100's per day) and as a result, many companies do want to see a return quickly. The fear is that after spending 1000's there will be no results and just a bit hole. This is a fear of most businesses however in particular new companies or companies that are in financial difficulty.
Many companies that need work 'now' expect that by bringing on a telemarketing company to work through data/chase old leads - will produce instant results.
The Truth
The fact is that telemarketing does take time to work according to the following steps:
Prospecting and finding leads
Cold calling/introducing to find contact
Chasing down contact for initial contact
Sending information to contact
Follow up
Close
This process can take a week or can take months depending on how busy the prospect is, how difficult the receptionist is to get past, the selling process of the product/service (high value products tend to take longer to sell).
This being the case, businesses that need instant results will be frustrated as results will not be instant (unless you are lucky).
Telemarketing companies follow the above process to contact prospects and there is no short cutting the process. Prospects need to be contacted in their own time, pushing is only going to get you a bad name and you will never get what you need by pushing.
If you are paying 100's per day then there will be urgency to produce results (which is natural) however as the process cannot be shortcut, there is always going to be a problem between client and agency.
Companies that need sales 'now' do have to be patient, telemarketing does work but does need time to work (as above) and cannot be shortcut no matter how much money is paid to the telemarketing agency.
