The Typical Graphic Design Process

Graphic design is a very rewarding career choice

, but some people aren't really sure how the process works. Here we will be discussing the role of the graphic designer, the role of the customer, as well as the process that starts with the order and ends with the beautifully crafted finished product.

The Order

The customer places the order usually by describing the shape, colors and any other details that are important in the creation of the project. The graphic designer needs much more than that, however. The graphic designer is going to need to know who the target audience is, what medium the client prefers, what budget the client has set, what colors the graphic should use, and many other things. This is so that the graphic designer has an absolute clear picture of what the project should look like.

This is opposed to getting a vague idea on the project, spending hours perfecting it, and then finding out that the project isn't to the client's exact specifications. This is why many graphic designers have a worksheet they will have clients fill out that will give them all the information they need to create the perfect project.

Designing the Project

The graphic designer will consider all the specifications the client has set and will get to work planning the project. This usually involves creating a sort of blueprint that helps to outline the creation of the project, step-by-step, from beginning to end. That way there is no guess work and so that every detail is planned.

The Target Audience

This is a very important aspect of the whole process. If the graphic designer knows the target audience, it will be easier to create messages that speak directly to that audience. For instance, if you're targeting a hip audience, you won't want to use phrases like 'The Bee's Knees' that's reserved for much older people.

The Medium

Is the design project a brochure, a magazine ad, a website design? These are important because the answer is going to affect the entire project. Take colors for instance. Some colors look great on a brochure but they don't come across very well online. This is why the medium is very important so that the graphic designer knows how to proceed.

These are the most important aspect of the process of creating the perfect graphic design process. But the most important aspect is communication. The graphic designer needs to be ready to ask questions if anything about the project is unclear. And the client needs to be absolutely sure what he or she wants so that none of the designer's efforts are wasted on miscommunication.

Hopefully, this helps to better explain of the graphic designer, the client and how the process is completed. Again, graphic design is a very rewarding career, but it's also very technical. But once the correct steps are followed, the perfect project will be designed every time.
