The Ultimate Guide About Step Ladders
Step ladders primarily provide ease of storage and portability despite lacking in adjustable features
. It has flat steps and its hinged design makes it easy to store. To properly use a stepladder, always ensure that you have a flat surface for a levelled ground support. Before using a stepladder, make sure that you fully open the base and you lock the spreaders. Stepladders can never replace single ladders, nor should it assume a partially open position when used. Only one person can use a stepladder at once.
Before you buy stepladders, be sure to check the height of your workplace. They range in length from three feet to twenty feet when measured along the side rails. Anything shorter than this falls under the category of step stools. To get the maximum work height, add the user's height and reach to the highest standing level of the stepladder. The highest standing level is usually just a little higher than two feet from the top of the ladder. Users should never attempt to mount the top cap or bucket / pail shelf.
All ladders, including cheap step ladders, follow the safety standards for construction, performance, use and proper care. They also come with safety features such as anti-slip safety shoes or feet, non-slip steps, and gripping surfaces.
Before purchasing them always thoroughly inspect the item. Perform regular check-ups and inspection on its working parts such as rivets, bolts, step-to-side rail connections and the anti-slip feet. Always clean the climbing and gripping surfaces, especially if you have been working with grease and other slippery materials. Have the ladder thoroughly and competently repaired. If it cannot be repaired, discard the ladder. Destroy any ladders with broken or bent side rails. If you discard a ladder, destroy it first so as to render it useless. No person should use a ladder that has been deemed unsafe. Excessive heat or fire, as well as corrosive substances such as acids or alkali may cause the ladder to weaken. Remove exposed ladders immediately and refrain from
using them.
When transporting stepladders with proper support such as putting it on ladder racks. Avoid any overhang. Support the ladder from vibration, chafing and road shock with support points made of wood or rubber-covered pipe. If stored for prolonged periods they should have adequate supporting points to avoid any sagging as this can cause warping depending on the material used. Do not put any materials or objects on top of step ladders while in storage.
