Man may not be the most blemish less of nature's creations, and does not occupy a completely risk free sphere of the universe. In the same way these lights also have some drawbacks. Still, on a comparative scale, LED emergency lights score much higher than other types of emergency lights.

One of the prime advantages of LED emergency lights over conventional lights is the intensity of colors and the wider range of colors that it can produce. Further, they do not require color filters as in the case of other lights, because colored light is emitted by the bulb itself. This has another advantage because during undercover operations when users want the LED emergency lights to be invisible, just switching off would solve the problem of visibility.

Another quality of LED emergency lights that catapults it to the top of the popularity chart is its astonishingly long life. The peak performance life of these lights is more than 50,000 hours and can be even up to 100,000 hours for some bulbs. Then there is a period of several hours during which the bulb will continue to be functional with a dimmer light. On an average, LED emergency lights have a life longer than that of the vehicle on which it is used.

When switched on, LED emergency lights get activated within microseconds, and adapt well to frequent switching on and off which is a requirement in emergency vehicles. This too gives it an edge over fluorescent lamps whose life span tends to become shorter when they are activated and deactivated frequently. Besides that, these lights are not fragile and are better resistant to shocks and impact with rough surfaces.

LED lights are directional and so LED emergency lights can be focused pointedly at the object that needs to be highlighted without any waster of light. Because of that, there is no need of an external reflector to gather and direct the light as is necessary for halogen or strobe lights. The light emitted by LED emergency lights is cool and there is no heat radiation associated as with conventional lights.

Further, LED light is acknowledged to be closer to actual daylight in quality. It is also non-flickering in nature and this makes it easier for police to examine bits and pieces of evidence. All these strengthen the position of LED emergency lights as the first choice of vehicle users.

One inhibiting feature of LED emergency lights is its high cost. So, for those departments or individuals who need to use emergency lights only infrequently, investing in LED lights may not be a practical solution. Further, even for those who need it for long term use, there could be sometimes financial constraints in making a big investment. For others, LED emergency lights are the best answer for all their emergency vehicle lighting requirements.
