The Uses And Benefits Of A Cctv Camera In The Home And Beyond
Crime rates in the UK do not appear to be declining in the imminent future and residential burglaries are one of the most common crimes to be reported
. Whilst a home alarm system is installed in many properties in the UK, this is often not enough in terms of protecting your property. This is not to say it is an unnecessary measure by any means, but when an intruder has entered your home an alarm system will do little to stop any theft occurring. Hidden cameras can however add this extra layer of protection and can also assist in security issues beyond burglary, having recently found a market in the form of nanny cameras, this topic will also be discussed below.
Benefits of installing a spy or CCTV camera system in your property are numerous. Depending on the amount of money you are willing to spend and which system you purchase you may have the capability to record images in complete darkness, and further to this some camera models also have the capacity to record audio. Another benefit of a hidden camera system installed in your home is that it is exactly that, hidden. As such there is little possibility that any intruder will even look for such a system, let alone find one. Other common benefits include the ability to record an almost limitless amount of video through selective recording and automated overwriting of video after a certain number of days or weeks. This is possible on a number of systems due to the use of a hard drive or memory stick which automatically overwrites itself after a certain period of time. Gone are the days when VHS tapes were used and had to be replaced on an almost daily basis.
As with any home security product however there are disadvantages of a spy camera system in your property. Firstly you have to consider the fact that a hidden camera will also record your movements around your property. This aspect might initially put off many homeowners, but, when you consider that you will be the only person able to view those images and that it has been shown the UK has the greatest amount of CCTV cameras in the world than any other country, then it really should not be a realistic issue. The other factor you need to consider is that if you do decide to install such a camera system in your home then you will need to inform the other occupants of your house as if family members stumble across the system without prior knowledge of its existence then this could cause obvious issues.
After you have decided to purchase a spy camera system for your home the next step is to decide where to install the cameras themselves. You will obviously want to position cameras in areas where high value items are stored, but you will also want devices covering entrances to your property. Other areas where cameras should be positioned are vulnerable access points into your home such as large bay windows. These are all considerations which need to be made prior to positioning the system and as each house is different in terms of design it is a design that you alone will need to make.
Hidden cameras can also be used beyond a traditional guard again intrusion. For example, there is a growing market for a hidden nanny cam in the UK which is essentially positioned in areas where your child will be cared for by a nanny within your home, allowing you to ensure that your child receives the best care possible when they are out of your hands. Whilst standard hidden cameras already serve the nanny camera extremely well, a technological advance on this type of product is the IP camera which allows you to stream video footage from the camera (and audio should the camera feature this capability) directly to a PC or laptop anywhere in the world which is connected to the internet. This of course means that you can monitor the care of your child in real-time without having to wait until you return home to review the footage, as such this is an option you may wish to consider.
In conclusion, a spy camera system offers residential properties an added layer of protection which a simple home alarm system cannot afford your property. Whilst no security system will be able to totally protect your home against intrusion, a camera system will at least assist in the location of any intruder, assist the police in any enquiries, and will also serve to protect your child when they are being cared for by an individual.
