The World Takes A Giant Step With The Smtp Servers
Along the path of the development of the human civilization
, man has witnessed many a changes. There have been many a phenomenal changes like the invention of the wheel and the fire that have quickened the process of the development of the human civilization. A development that took place in the recent decades, which is of equal significance, is the development of communication technology.
It has made our lives simpler and made the entire world a small place indeed. The development of the postal system made the messengers redundant. With the coming of the telephones people started talking over phone rather than going through the pain of writing letters and waiting for them to be delivered. Then, came the internet. Even though it was initially developed for the U.S. government under the name of ARPANET, gradually it came to equally useful for the civilians and within a few decades that it became a household necessity.
As more and more people started becoming connected to the ARPANET, the need to develop a separate network to allow people to email each other. From this need grew the SMTP which was launched in November, 1981. Earlier they were internal for a company that allowed the employees to send email outside the company and receive from the email from outside.
Then however, with the further development of the technology, it came to be used outside the company as well when an employee chose to send an email by using the SMTP server of the company while on a trip. Thus, the area where the SMTP could operate became larger. But then some restrictions came to be imposed. You had to remain within the specified territory and send emails from the specific IP address that is controlled by your
SMTP provider in order to be able to successfully complete the process.
Initially the SMTP specifications did not include any clause for checking the authenticity of the user. Later it was incorporated to reduce the spam messages that were sent through the SMTP. The facility of sending bulk emails through the SMTP that is the major reason of its being developed has encouraged many a spammer.
Even after many years of research it cannot be said to be imperfect. Newer and more advanced challenges are being faced by the
SMTP mail server. But constant research is being conducted in order to make it more error free and also to make it more user friendly.
