Some Senators are saying that the president's current strategy in Afghanistan is counterproductive," Democratic support for the war has receded so severely that Obama needs Republican support to get an emergency war spending bill through the House of Representatives. General Stanley McChrystal in an article in Rolling Stone magazine denigrated the White House and US allies in Afghanistan. Lawmakers of America are worried about the estrangement between military and civilian leaders in Kabul and are hoping from Petraeus to work carefully with his civilian equivalents which in turn were promised by Petraeus. He vowed to work very closely with the US ambassador in Kabul, Karl Eikenberry, as well as NATO and UN envoys. Petraeus supported President Obama's strategy in Afghanistan and the deadline of withdrawal of troops in July 2011.however he said that it would be a beginning of US troops and complete withdrawal will take a number of years before Afghan forces can completely take control of security.

Afghanistan has been the toughest war field not for America but all the invaders so far. the Russians could not succeed in their mission to dominate the region, and before them the British forces have also licked the dust in 1940's.those who are familiar with the geography and culture of Afghanistan know very well that the battlefields of Afghanistan are the toughest for invaders. After the incident of 9/11 the US led NATO forces attacked the territory to subdue the Taliban and their supporters Al Qaeda. Since then the filtered reports are revealing that all is not well in Afghanistan. The official facts and figures of causalities have reached 1800 military personnel. On the other hand the reports from other sources which are not official but are said to be independent tell the completely opposite story. That is why the American interests and strategy was criticized by the commander who was made to resign the very second day. General David Petraeus is the new commander of the NATO forces in Afghanistan after the General Stanley McChrystal episode. He was unanimously accepted by the democrats as well republicans. "Afghanistan is not a lost cause," insisted Senator John McCain, who called the task of stabilizing the country "hard but not hopeless." Gen.Petraeus, believes in the troop "surge" strategy, as he adopted the same in Iraq. "Indeed, it may get more intense in the next few months," Petraeus, told the Senate Armed Services Committee. Petraeus warned it would take "a number of years" before Afghan security forces could take over for NATO-led troops, a step US officials have described as a precondition for a complete withdrawal. He described the security situation as "tenuous, with instability fueled by a resilient and still-confident insurgency."

The statements and figures as revealed in the senate clearly show that there is something wrong in the bottom. The results of war are not according to the wishes of the NATO led forces. They are thinking something else, as face saving policy. General Stanley McChrystal has told the truth about the policy and interest of the US government. He has also told about the civilian s leaders of America and representatives of NATO in Afghanistan. His criticism is not baseless but needs attention.
