The "Silent" Cause Of Acne by:Alan Quan
Acne is more than just an unattractive "bump" on your face
. It is actually more of the body's way of effectively treating a buildup of sebum that is caught within the hair follicles by reacting to resolve the problem.
This creates the well-known process of inflammation. When our bodies have been plagued by illness or injury, then starts the healing process. When our bodies detect infection, its automatic built in response is to get rid of it, and fast.
Our built-in response and repair system shows no mercy to any form of bacteria that has been manifest within our bodies. Inflammation is the "silent" cause of acne. It is called silent because most folks blame acne on genetics or dirty, oily skin and seldom consider that it could be their body's way of trying to rid the bacteria out of their pores.
The job is to get to it quick, and take care of the problem effectively. For those that have frequent acne outbreaks, this can pose a serious problem. Our body's inflammatory response is a wonderful thing, until it attacks our face.
You see, acne is a form of inflammation. In most cases, inflammation is a very good thing. It is the way that we know our bodies are properly handling an injury or illness. Inflammation is a natural part of the healing process.
The reason is this: When our bodies detect that something is wrong, our inflammatory response system attacks and repairs causing redness, inflammation, and oftentimes - scarring. But, if inflammation heals us and makes us better, then why does it also cause so many other problems? There are two parts to the process of inflammation: The healing part and the actual flare-up.
It is great that when we get sick, our body's see fit to fix the problem. But, it is another thing to feel tired because our body's natural defense systems are working so hard to fix the issue. What's more is that when we do encounter a buildup of sebum or clogged hair follicles on our faces is that the inflammatory response not only works in overdrive to repair that particular area, it also begins to attack other small areas around the infection! In turn, we receive more damage than what the acne would have caused initially.
Some of us have a stronger inflammatory response than others, creating even more scarring and redness. There are other things that can cause the hyperactivity of our cells, such as eating greasy foods, medications, too much or too little sun exposure, stress, and genetics. But once the sebum begins to build up on those cells around the hair follicles, it is probably going to be too late. The body has probably already gotten ready to begin the healing process. This can indeed turn into a nightmare, depending on how much healing is needed.
It is bad enough to know that the infection itself has to be taken care of, let along the skin surrounding the area. If healing is the answer, then where's the cure?
