People- you can't live with them, nor can you run a business without them! Good staff
have the ability to transform a weak business into a strong organisation, but with the publicised 'skills gap' finding qualified individuals is becoming harder for a number of business owners.
Getting the
recruitment process right is the best way of eliminating the risk of recruiting the wrong person for the job. By getting the process right you will ensure you only get applications from suitable applicants, making it easier to differentiate between suitable applicants during the selection process. If you get the process wrong, not only do you fail to attract suitable applicants, but you also will have wasted money and time advertising and going through applications, just to do the process all over again.
Recruiting should be more than a process carried out to fill a vacancy. It should be part of the overall organisational strategy for resourcing personnel. When you have filled one vacancy, you should be left with a list of candidates that you would consider for a similar position within the company in the future. The list will make the hiring process much easier the next time you have a vacancy.
It is worth remembering that people talk. Whilst they might be applying for a job with you, if they get a job elsewhere they could soon become a competitor, client or supplier so ensure their experience with your company is a good one, then you can be sure when they tell others about it a positive impression of the company is created.
There are a range of routes that can be taken to recruit the perfect candidate but the one best for your company will be dependent on the type of position you are recruiting for and the amount of money you want to spend.
