The story of Ruth-The choice you make must definitely yield results sooner or later

What do you do in the face of Crises? Do you relax

, settle down, and think of a solution before taking actions? Or you jump around screaming for help and causing more confusion? Or you take any action which comes to your mind without thinking? The decision you make during a Crisis is very crucial and important which will either create a solution or make the present situation worsened.

Ruth 1:16 states: "But Ruth replied, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God".

The story of Ruth is one of the most intriguing stories in the Bible. In the social lives of the Ancient Near east, men were the major breadwinners and status givers to women. Thus the loss of a husband left a woman with no social position. Naomi and her family experienced the unthinkable: the loss of all the men in her family. She and her daughter in-laws were more of strangers in the land since she was a Moabites and the Israelites were generally unfriendly towards Moabites.

Naturally, she would have longed to return home but decided not to since there was a bumper harvest in Israel. She urged her young daughter in-laws to settle down and return to family life and thus return to their family homes. The issue before Ruth and Oprah was to go back with Naomi to remain widows in Israel or to go back home and re-start their lives. Oprah opted for the more reasonable and easier path to return home while Ruth decided to follow Naomi to live with her and serve her and God; she made this commitment in the name of the Lord and had thus taken a great step of faith to follow God and His people.

Does the action of Ruth tell us anything about making right choices in our decision making processes today? Yes and three of such principles should be considered whenever we are at the Cross-roads of our lives:

Is God's honor respected and does it please him?

Is it an act of faith and does it indicate trust in God? (Romans 14:23)

Is it relatively selfish and does it benefit me alone to the detriment of others?

Oprah went back not only to her home, but to her gods and as well, went backwards, while Ruth moved forward by sticking to the God Naomi serves and as well going wherever Naomi went. What was the final result? She was inculcated into the earthly lineage of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, being the great grand mother of King David. As we face many decisions in our lives let us take the example of Ruth and make decisions to the glory of God.
