Massage therapy focuses on reducing or eliminating someones pain, using massage to reduce stress and to simply help someone achieve the best in their overall health. Occupational therapy jobs deal more with treating and training a patient so that they can deal with tasks that are needed for everyday living. This type of therapist job might help someone regain the ability to walk again or teach someone who is now regulated to a wheelchair how to perform typical tasks without the use of their legs.

Physical therapy jobs usually deal with rehabilitating someone when they have suffered a physical limitation due to injury or illness. A physical therapist will use different techniques and exercises that are designed to help the patient overcome those limitations. Another profession on the long list of therapy jobs is a recreation therapist. This type of job will focus more on a persons mental and emotional health, but also deals with their physical well being as well. They usually work with patients that are dealing with some kind of illness or disability. They are usually found working in clinic, hospitals and facilities that provide long term care.

When you are just starting out in one these fields, you may begin as an assistant to the actual therapist. Jobs physical therapy assistants usually perform include things like the initial evaluation of the patient, determining how well they are progressing through the rehab process and recording all of this data and reporting it to the licensed therapist they are working under. Jobs occupational therapy assistants will perform include preparing and cleaning the equipment used during treatment sessions, as well as preparing the necessary paperwork to be used by therapist when working with patients that have some type of limitation.
