There Is A Big Difference Between Men's Loss Of Hair And Hair Loss For Women

When you think of hair loss for women, you do not have the same mental picture as when you think of hair loss for men

. The look that flashes through your head for men is one of total baldness.

The look for women is usually not as severe. The gradual thinning of hair over the scalp happens due to many factors.

When women start to notice their hair is thinning they may start to wear a wig or a scarf or even a hat. There are hair extensions available for women as well.

There are those that run to the doctor quickly and schedule appointments for surgery. The one problem with this type of solution is the surgeon has no way of knowing which hairs may continue to fall out.

If he cannot predict this, the procedure will be unable to replace hairs that may fall out after the surgery is over. This defeats the purpose of having the surgery performed.

Hair loss for women is experienced by approximately 40% of women in the U.S. This affliction has finally come out in the open, making more people aware that hair loss for women is a problem.

The trauma this causes women is another aspect that has kept them quiet for so long. This is a problem that they associate with loss of their femininity.

It is no wonder with all the advertisements and commercials that depict women with long gorgeous locks of hair. The look that is expected of women is not one of being bald.

This trauma coupled with not knowing what to use on their thinning hair is even more troublesome. Now they are becoming more open and discussing it with their doctors.

The causes of loss of hair in women is being studied and more solutions are being made available to women than ever before. It is known that a normal head of hair consists of approximately 100,000 to 150,000 hairs.

When we lose our hair naturally, it only accounts for 100 to 150 hairs daily. The new hair that grows replaces this hair and the cycle continues.

Hair grows until it reaches the resting stage where part of it rests and the remaining part continues to grow. However, the hair you see is not alive.

The only part that is alive is where it grows out of the hair follicles. The strands that we see are just dead cells.

If you notice more hair than normal falling out or coming out when you brush your hair, most likely there is a problem. Hair loss for women is much slower than for men and the loss may occur over a period of years. Essentially what happens is the normal phase of growing, resting, shedding and growing is interrupted. When this is the case, the growing phase does not happen. The hair just continues to be shed.

Heredity is one of the causative factors in hair loss for women. Do not lose hope that there is something that can be done because there have been great strides made in this area.
