There's a Champion in All of Us

There's a Champion in All of Us
I am a new blogger and on my website, physcodog.com, you will see influences of sports throughout the website even though it is a site dealing with productivity, health, and fitness. I love sports and I see many correlations between sports and everyday life. The 2010 NBA Finals endedlast June and to me knowledge it was one of the most watched and competitive series in a long time. If you are not a sports fan you can still appreciate the messages delivered in this piece. The Boston Celtics took on the Los Angeles Lakers in a best of 7 series. The Lakers repeated as champs even though the Celtics fought hard and fell short. Even though the Celtics came up on the losing end, they are still winners and champions. No one on the court is anything less. I believe each and every one of us walking this earth are champs in our own right. The same characteristics that made the Lakers and Celtics champions is what makes us the same. Don't see the similarities? Hear me out.
Have You Ever Been the Underdog?-
While the Lakers were favored to return to the NBA Finals, the things that hindered the Boston Celtics according to the so called experts were too old and slow. Even if they were not those things, they still were not considered championship material by many. Many doubted they would even last long in the playoffs and they proved everyone wrong by defeating every team that many experts considered were the better teams. Has someone ever doubted you or misjudged you incorrectly? I'm sure you answered with a "hell yes!" All champions have an ability to dismiss the negativity that surrounds them. People will tell you that you have no chance and accomplishing this or that no matter what you do. If you have a goal in mind set it and no look back. The Celtics overcame the same reasons most believe would overcome them and reached one of their goals. You should not let anyone tell you that you are not good enough.
Champions Understand There are More Ways to Victory than One-
In my opinion one of the best in the game today, Kobe Bryant knows this characteristic very well. Bryant main role on the Lakers is to score and score he does well. He averaged 29 points a game during the playoffs. In game 7 of the finals Kobe couldn't make a shot to save his life. Many shots were short while others were just too strong. Know that his shot was off in the biggest games of his career, he knew he had to contribute in other ways in order to hoist up the trophy in the end. He knew whoever had the most rebounds as a team has won the previous six games. With that knowledge he made an effort to grab 15 rebounds and helped the Lakers win back to back championships. Sometimes you have to alter your processes when it comes to reaching your goals. If things are not going your way, look for other ways to accomplish your mission. By being flexible, you will not set yourself up for failure and you will succeed. Your strongest asset may in some cases be the problem. Sometimes sticking to what feels right may be what is wrong and champions recognize this and change their strategy.
When Battles are Lost the War Remains-
There hasn't been a finals match up that has went all 7 games since 2004. The reason for this is because most teams when they have lost a game or two pretty much give up. That's when the victorious team goes in for the kill and eventually win the series. The Lakers and Celtics battle each other game after game. First, the C's stole home-court advantage meaning they will have an opportunity to win out on their home floor. The Lakers stole it back to only have Boston win two in a row. Almost down for the count the Lakers knew they couldn't lose another battle or the war was lost. Backed in a corner, they took command of the last two games of the series and came out victorious in the end. Moral of this story, just because you failed on a smaller level does not mean your ultimate goal is out of reach.
Champions Believe in Themselves-
Like I said earlier, I believe we are all champions. The problem is some people do not believe in themselves in which restricts them from reaching their full potential. Throughout the 2009-2010 NBA season, the Boston Celtics were told they were too old and to slow to compete on a championship level even though two years ago they were the league champions. Time and time again they were considered the underdogs but they believed in themselves and knew they were a team to be reckoned with. The key is to believe in your abilities whether its mental or physical. Once you have mastered that, then all you have to do is perform.
We Are All Champions-
Sometimes we doubt ourselves when things are not going our way and may want to give up. The key is to look in the mirror and remind yourself who you really are...A CHAMPION in every way. Would champions feel sorry for themselves? Everyone can relate to facing adversity at some point in life just like in sports. Once we face that adversity, what will happen when you look at yourself? You will react like a champion and prevail. Remember believing is achieving.
