Thieves Target Have Changed

Times have definitely changed: the times of the classy thieves that we watched in American movies seems to be over

. We should forget about action men like James Bond or skilled thieves like the Sean Connery of Entrapment, modern common thieves seems to be interested in more modest and easy targets.

Indeed in Italy in the last decades numerous have been the thefts in small businesses, very often tobacconists, supermarkets or bakers, businesses with a fair daily customer base and therefore a certain, even if moderate takings. The characteristic of this kind of businesses that most of all attracts thieves is the fact that quite often these small or medium shops have small number of employers- that possibly could put up a fight against them during the theft- very often dont have any alarm or video surveillance and have a small commercial surface and therefore require the intervention of two or at maximum three persons.

An area in which there have been registering an alarming number of this kind of thefts is the Valchiavenna, area in which the last victim of a theft was the bakers-confectioners shop Moreschi srl of Prata Camportaccio. During the night between Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October 2011 two thieves, dressed- up with two white suits, entered in the company property. Everything begun at 2.30 in the morning, time on which the bakers of the shop normally go to the laboratory for the night shift; the employees indeed, like every morning disconnected the alarm and went to the first floor where there are all the pastry and bakery machineries that realize the shops products.

The thieves, that likely were waiting right for the alarm to be unplugged, silently entered in the low ground, from the door normally used for the loading and unloading of the goods and that the bakers had left half-open in order to accelerate the delivery of the goods, which often arrive in the morning. The two then, didnt need to use the crowbar they had with them.

Thieves at that point could act practically undisturbed as the bakers where already at work on the first floor, and because of the noise made by the machinery couldnt hear nothing. The two left with the whole cash register and some bottles of wine taken from the commercial area of the shop.

The thieves have been filmed by the video surveillance of the shop even if unfortunately their faces were well hidden under the white suits they used that morning; on the other hand, from the recording one could see that they were without a doubt two tall men, one was skinny while the other one was a robust fellow. The video surveillance wasnt able to film if they had some means of transportation hidden in the near streets or if they had arrived by foot.

The sensation of the owners is that they were people of the neighborhood, because of the knowledge of business and of the shop and most of all of the habits of the bakers. Saturday morning on the place have been called the Carabinieri of Chiavenna station and hopefully they will find new portents that could help in solving this case and the other similar thefts of the past weeks.
