Nothing beats a weekend away and with over 300 public beaches in Cornwall there no better place to spend a weekend.

October is a great month to visit Cornwall as there are a range of events to suit all tastes being held. With a vast range of hotels in Cornwall to choose from, there's no reason not to extend a day trip into an overnight stay.

October 14-17 brings the Falmouth Oyster Festival, which has become acknowledged as a must travel to event. The event is timed to coincide with the start of the oyster harvesting season and the festival celebrates the quality of Cornish seafood. With live music, cooking demonstrations as well as Cornish comedy at its best on offer, you've no excuse not to go. Entry to the festival is free unless you plan to attend the Opening Ceremony- but you just need to buy a raffle ticket for entry.

Halloween brings a number of special events suitable for all of the family. The Spooky Pumpkin Trail takes place at Shire hall where you have to follow the pumpkins and crack the clues to get yourself a trick or treat. If you are feeling daring why not take part in the Halloween trail in the beautiful Cardinham Woods. There is no need to book, just track down the clues so you can claim you scary treat.

If you are worried a rainy day may ruin your plans there's no point heading home because there's a good chance it's raining there too. Get the wellies out and see whats on offer. The best thing to do when it's raining is get wetter, Cornwall has the best surfing beaches in Europe and whether you are a beginner or a pro, grab a board and give it a go.

Home to expert bakers, confectioners and chocolatiers, if the wet weather has got you feeling blue find solace in the amazing comfort food on offer. Sit by a roaring fire and appreciate the landscape whilst indulging in some locally made chocolates, clotted cream and fudge.
