Things to do in Orlando
Many tourist destinations require a little bit of research before parting with any cash after all, the last thing you want is to book a fortnight on a cut-price resort holiday only to discover that most of the attractions are closed for the off-season'.
So don't be wooed by price alone if a destination seems particularly inexpensive, a little caution should be exercised before making a booking. However, some places simply never have an off-season' and those places are typically ones with year-round fine weather.
Aptly nicknamed The Sunshine State', Florida has a fantastic subtropical climate throughout the year, so the US state never really gets extremely hot or extremely cold. This is partly why Florida is such a popular destination, as it's a great place to visit in winter or summer.
However, there may be a temptation to pigeon-hole Florida as a place to go to either sit on the beach, or to visit Disney World in Orlando.
Indeed, whilst Disney World is a major highlight in the Sunshine State, the surrounding Orlando area has plenty more activities on offer.
Florida is well known for its resident alligator population and what better place to learn about these reptiles than in Gatorland, where visitors can get up close and personal with these prehistoric beasts. It's probably worth venturing out on an airboat tour too, where you can fly and float and hopefully catch a glimpse of a gator in its natural habitat.
Then there's SeaWorld, perhaps the only amusement park in the whole of Orlando that won't necessitate waiting in mammoth queues. The performing sea animals including killer whales - will keep children and adults entertained for hours.
Orlando is also home to a series of delightful museums including Ripley's Believe It or Not, which has a collection of artefacts that can be best described as weird but wonderful'. The Orlando Science Center and Kissimmee Air Museum offer fantastic exhibits for visitors of all ages.
In Orlando, you're a mere stone's throw from the impressive 4,700 acre Forever Florida wildlife conservation area, where you can travel on a horseback safari or sail through the treetops on a zipline safari.
So whilst Florida is a fantastic location for sun, sand and sea holidays, there's plenty more on offer to engage tourists of all ages. With its star attraction of Disney World, hotels in Orlando are always in great demand. It's the city's other delights that really takes it to the next level there's something for everyone in Orlando.
