In 1921, Guccio Gucci, the founder of the Gucci empire, set up his first accessories store in Florence, Italy. The line originally consisted of leather and other special items for both men and women; however it later came to include the Gucci watch when a store was opened in 1950. The first designs incorporated the famous G logo into the design as part of the watch. As the company has expanded over the years, many other special materials have been used in the design of the watch. A Gucci watch combines Swiss precision with a sleek, clean and contemporary Italian sense of style.

Breitling watches were introduced in 1884. Although they were primarily intended for pilots and mariners, the chronograph functions found on some of the models such as fly back, moon phase and a tide measuring device have become selling points with the general public. The Breitling Emergency for example, features a radio transmitter broadcasting on the 121.5 MHz distress frequency. The watch could also be used as a back-up for ELT type airborne beacons. As such, features such as these found on Breitling watches are now less commonly used for their original intention, however they remain a hit with gadget lovers, sporty types and those with a thirst for adventure.

The TAG Heuer Company was founded in 1860 when Eduard Heuer opened his watch company in St Limier. Tag watches have since become linked with glamour and the sporting world, often being involved in some way in advertising or sponsorship. As well as for effectiveness and ease of wearing, Tag watches are noted for their speed and accuracy in the formative years of the company, TAG Heuer won a competition for the most accurate time keeping, a telling sign of the leaps in innovation in both form and function the company was to take in later years.

The Citizen Watch Company places particular emphasis on innovation in terms of technology and style. Since the companys inception in Japan in 1918, the company has produced a wide range of watches which similarly to those made by Breitling, were originally intended for use in the air or at sea. One of the watches featured in the collection is the Eco Drive power watch, the first Citizen watch to run on a solar panel which was hidden in the face of the watch. Another notable model is the Sky hawk AT line, which featured Atomic Timekeeping. This meant that the watch could adjust itself automatically, as it relied on a number of atomic clocks situated in the United States, Japan and Europe.
