This and that of Graphic Formats
Knowledge of the graphic formats is fundamental for anyone interested in photography
. These days, photography is also about experimenting with the colours, backgrounds and the photograph itself. You can do these things all the more better if you know the graphic formats of different pictures.
I won't be wasting time in explaining the hundreds of graphic formats that exist; instead I will focus on a few which are used for creating a website and is supported by popular web browsers. They are Graphic Interchange Format (GIF), Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG), Portable Network Graphics (PNG), Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) and Bitmap (BMP).
Before going into details, let me get back to basics. The two most basic formats are raster and vector graphics. The latter one is used in drawings and illustrations using Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand. It is preferable while creating drawings possessing mathematical elements in them. On the other hand, raster graphics or bitmaps include all the popular graphic formats I mentioned above. A bitmap is created by continuity of small dots called pixels or picture elements. One thing which deserves attention of a
Web Design Company is the fact that all the vector graphics are required to be converted into raster graphic formats to display itself on a web page.
It is time to highlight some of the factors which matter for
Web Design India: * The places where images matter, JPEG takes the lead. * GIF can give a clean and organised look to your diagram. * Use PNG for a text description of an image.
GIF files can deal with the extremity of 256 colours and is supported by most of the browsers. It is best used for black and white images, animations, cartoons or the ones which contain transparent zones.
JPEG supports as much colours as you desire making it the most preferable one for the complex drawings or high quality pictures. Although it does not support animation, it is still a big hit because of its ability to capture minute details.
PNG files overcome the limitation of GIF supporting 8 bit colours. It does not compromise in quality but does not even support multiple images. It is a new comer in the field of multimedia but has the potential to dominate the market very soon.
The web designers use either JPEG or GIF for their work depending upon the requirement of either vector graphics or raster graphics for the website. As soon as PNG appears in the market competition, it will replace the GIF files but the latter will still be in demand for the animation purposes.
