Thought: Where does it come from?

Thought: Where does it come from?
We know what we know but cannot possibly tell what we know, where does it come from and why should it be there and what is the finality of thought?
We think. We have to think. No one cannot possibly not think. If we do stop thinking then we sleep. There is nothing easier to get sleep than to stop thinking. Even in meditation our mind deliberately take a spot of concentration and focus on it with intensity of thought. We have to think and we are forced to do so.
No one escapes thinking. We face a universe, whether the big one or our small universe of our small circle and we are obliged to think. From the inner circle of our own selves with its individual universe to the big universe at large with its galaxies, and stars and planets, its laws, structure, form and nature.
Everything is the centre of our thoughts. But what are thoughts? Are they correlations of consciousness of interaction between mind and matter? If our brains, constructed of 80-120 billions of neurons with complex systems of signals, electro-magnetic energy confront matter, in terms of shape, form and color, as well as structure, function then we are in the process of thinking. How do we know we are thinking?
It is a difficult question that few can provide with answers. What are thoughts? Simply, we do not know. Are thoughts ideas? If so what are ideas and where do they come from? Why should we have ideas in the first place? Is it in order to comprehend and understand something? What for?
The finality of an idea is to make us aware of an object? Why should we be aware of an object? Or a series of objects? Quite difficult to answer. But we go on thinking as an inevitable function of our minds, or souls. We have to be aware of things. For what purpose? Maybe to survive or simply to appreciate things.
Then the question of why should we appreciate things comes into the fore. Survival. Animals make it and all plants have to do it, otherwise these animals and plants cannot survive. We think of what is to make use of what is. We think of how things are made and for what purpose in order to exploit these things, whether for survival or for our own knowing satisfaction.
But our natural curiosity to know leads to our present state of knowledge. Then can we identify thinking with knowledge? If so the big question remains in front of us namely, why should we know? For what purpose are we to know.
One solution perhaps is that we are forced to confront the universe and forced to think in order to conclude something. This thing is to question naturally our existence, our own being in this universe. Perhaps the answer lies in the purpose of our efforts to know and thinking is the necessary vehicle to knowledge.
Then, if thinking is to know, whether to survive or just to know, then knowledge, which we are equipped for by having a brain and its systems of functioning, must have a purpose that leads to questioning about our presence, the presence of everything. This in turn leads, or may lead, to the question of whether or not our knowledge can perceive, or perhaps not, a designer, a creator!
If this is so and we are in the position to consider this argument for the sake of our inquiry then thinking is formed by such a creator to provide us with knowledge. Whether this knowledge leads to a creator or not this is strictly individual, since there is no proof.
It might be exactly this hypothesis, far fetched as it might seem, that we exist, we have a brain and we have to think and acquire knowledge. Whether a scientist can conclude a creator or not in his laboratory, it remains up to the scientist himself. Whether we conclude a creator-God or a Great architect or not in our universal laboratory it is individually up to everyone of us. By looking for the purpose of thought, perhaps we can have a btter light of where thought comes from.
Thinking is restricted to every individual person. No one shares thinking with another, unless the individual reveals his or her thought to the other. But it is a right, a privilege and a responsibility to think and conclude, and most of all a satisfying pleasure for most of us if not all.
This proves our individuality and our freedom as well as providing us with our dignity and self-respect.
So think for yourself, my friend.
