Three Body Changes To Avoid After A Tummy Tuck

The body is supposed to go through changes as it ages

. For some people, they believe that those changes ruin their body, especially their abdomen, which is already so hard to keep toned in the first place. So they look to alternative solutions to the same old efforts and complaints; they turn to plastic surgery to help them kick-start their body's refinement for the first time in their adult lives.

Most adults understand that the more effectively a person is able to work with their genetics and environmental stress to balance diet and activity, the more effectively that person is able to sustain a healthy weight. And with it, they are also more likely to keep within a healthy range as they age. But the key is to start in a good place. Some people require a little bit of help in the form of a tummy tuck, because weight loss after spending many years overweight has stretched their abdomen and left them with excess skin. Perhaps their expansion in the early stages of their pregnancy has split their abdomen muscles, or they have had a previous surgery or sports-related injury that makes it virtually impossible for them to get an effective abdomen workout. Strangely enough, the previously mentioned situations that bring patients to a surgeon's office for a tummy tuck are the same ways that a patient's surgery can be ruined if they occur following their procedure.

There are several possibilities that can damage the progress of one's recent tummy tuck procedure. First, over-exertion during one's period of healing can lead to excess scaring or, worse yet, stretched and damaged skin at the site of the incision. Second, although weight gain is gradual, it can still slowly alter the appearance of the skin, causing stretching as it once did prior to the first procedure. Third, pregnancy is a known culprit in damaging one's procedure. The direct expansion to the center of the abdomen can tear and cause stretch marks and definitely disfigure the site of the incision at the upper pubic area.

So in order to preserve the flatter stomach, more distinguished waistline and smooth hidden scar in the natural crease at the bend of the hip, certain body changes have to be avoided. This is why the tummy tuck is best suited for those individuals who know that they will take all precautions during post-op in regards to their weight. They also know that they will not be having any more children. Like most plastic surgery procedures performed on the body, the work can be undone by the actions of the patient just as well as they can be maintained; it is all in the effort.
