Three Problems Treated By Chiropractors
Chiropractors are health care professionals that diagnose
, treat, and prevent any conditions of the musculoskeletal system, with emphasis on the spine. The basic belief of chiropractic care is that the spinal disorders are directly linked to the health of the nervous system. There are many conditions of the musculoskeletal system that chiropractors treat on a daily basis.
Common symptoms include back, neck, and shoulder pain as well as pain in the lower back, buttocks, and legs. Pain in these areas can be caused by several problems and visiting a licensed chiropractor can be a great way to find a solution. Listed below are three common problems that chiropractors deal with on a daily basis.
Sports Injuries
Because of the physically demanding nature of sports, back and neck injuries as a result of a sporting injury are common conditions that chiropractors treat. Sports injuries also vary in their severity. An injury can be anything from whiplash to neck fracture to cervical spinal cord injuries. Whiplash is one of the most common problems. When a body is forced forward at a faster momentum, the neck can be forced backward and cause strain in tender ligaments in the neck and shoulders. Neck fractures are much more serious. A neck fracture is a break in one or more of the vertebrae in the neck. A person with this type of injury should receive immediate medical care. A chiropractor can help in the recovery process.
Sciatica
This sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body and also the main nerve that runs down the leg. However, sciatica is not a cause of a problem but a set of symptoms. The pain is caused by compression or irritation in the sciatic nerve or the five nerves that lead to the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is not a diagnosis but merely a description of the symptoms. Sciatica can be caused by a wide variety of problems, including slipped discs, spinal deformities, and even pregnancy.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
The carpal tunnel is a canal or tunnel located in the wrist through which the median nerve passes. The carpal tunnel is surrounded on three sides by bone and also by a ligament on the fourth side. Carpal tunnel syndrome is the result of compression on the median nerve through a series of different causes, although in many cases the cause is unknown. It might often be the result of consistent repetitive motion in the wrist or arm.
