For most families the problem of storage - or lack thereof - is an ongoing problem

. Garages particularly tend to get swamped with unwanted clutter until there is barely enough room left for the cars. Sometimes cars even have to be left outside because the "clutter" has taken over and consumed the entire floor space. When this happens, you know the time has come to get an outdoor storage shed.

Outdoor storage sheds are a great solution for all types of storage problems, including the storage of garden tools and leisure equipment such as bikes, surfboards, kayaks etc.

There are three ways to acquire an outdoor storage shed. The quickest, easiest - and most expensive - option is to buy a ready-made shed that is pre-fabricated and either delivered to your door in one piece, or in sections and assembled by the company where you ordered it from. This certainly takes all the work - and guesswork - out of acquiring an outdoor shed because you know exactly what you are buying when you choose a design from existing plans and designs.

Another advantage is that you can usually view ready-built examples of the various storage sheds when visiting the company's lot. This will give you an exact idea of sizes and how much you will be able to store inside the shed. A note of caution: not all ready-made or pre-fabricated sheds are of a high standard. Try to see at least a few examples of the company's sheds before buying so that you can inspect the quality of the shed.

The second - and somewhat cheaper - option of buying a shed is to order a shed in pre-cut kit form. This option can be considered a halfway measure between buying a completed shed, and building the shed yourself from scratch. With a kit, the shed is delivered to your door already pre-cut to size and includes detailed instructions on how to assemble it.

There is still a certain amount of skill and work involved in order to assemble the various parts and it may be beyond the scope of people who are not into DIY projects. If you don't feel comfortable with assembling the kit yourself, you can always rope in some friends who are handy with a hammer and not averse to working up a little sweat! On the other hand, if you're a bit of a DIY buff, then you'll relish the opportunity to put this baby together.

That leaves us with the third option: building the storage shed yourself. Yes, this does mean a lot more work - but it also means a huge saving which will literally shave thousands off the price of a ready-made shed.
