Niche topics or informative blogs will generate a readership that can be converted into advertising revenue from a blog. Across the web there are examples of successful entrepreneurs who started their business with a blog.

The only caveat with blog writing, however, is the fact that it takes time to build a readership. Bloggers can invest in advertising their site or reach out to other blogs with relevant content and offer a guest post to attract readers, but even these steps require time to build readership and thus generate revenue.

Copywriting

For more immediate revenue, freelance copywriting is a great alternative. There are currently dozens of reputable copywriting websites that serve as a proxy linking authors to clients and anyone can be an author. All that's required is a writing sample to determine an author's writing level.

Those able to produce high volumes of written content on demand would be particularly well suited for freelance copywriting.

Transcribing

Transcribing is an easily-acquired skill that's always in demand. Whether it's medical or legal transcription or transcribing video footage for television reality shows, often the only requirement for this line of work is a working computer and a stable Internet connection to receive the content that needs transcribing.

In terms of finding job opportunities, there are web-based companies that hire workers after evaluating a transcription sample from prospective hires. Additionally, particularly with transcribing for the television or film industries, dedicated job boards for these industries, as well as the popular websites that serve as a medium for online classified ads, are always littered with opportunities for freelance transcribers.

Additionally, for those with a knack for creativity, selling handmade goods online has been made much easier thanks to the many e-commerce websites that specialize in hosting goods from independent retailers for a small fee that's paid after each sale or on a monthly basis.
