Three months to CAT 2010? Dos & Don'ts for your preparation
There are barely three to four months left for CAT 2010>. While IIMs and Prometric are preparing hard to offer a seamless test taking experience, you should be prepared on your end too. You should move in an even pace throughout the remaining months to achieve the most of it. In the last article of MBAUniverse.com, you had seen the section wise preparation strategy for CAT 2010. In this article you will see the overall strategy as well as the do's and don'ts for the coming months for CAT 2010.
Do thorough preparation
Now since you have much time, you must utilize the time in getting the complete theoretical knowledge in all the sections. 'Focus on studying. Read all the chapters,' says Vivek Gupta, CAT expert, author and IIM Bangalore alumnus. Learn all the theory and get the concepts clear. 'As long as you are not clear with your basics, you won't be able to solve the higher level problems of CAT exam,' mentions R Shiva Kumar, Director, R & D, Career Launcher.
Practice
They say practice is the key to perfection. As you move ahead with the chapters you learn, you should see how well you have learnt by solving questions from the end of the chapter. 'Solve or practice exercises after each lesson. That is the best way to see how well you are getting prepared,' Gupta says. Improve the areas in which you are making mistakes by either getting them conceptually clarified or get more practice to rectify the errors you have been committing. You should also be able to judge your performance on the basis of the practice tests. If you fare well in a chapter should not mean that your preparation is complete. You should keep practicing all the chapters and topics till the actual CAT exam to gain optimum confidence.
Don't leave out any topic
CAT is such an exam, where there is no scope for selective study. 'You can never judge which an important topic is and which is not in the CAT exam. So you must not leave out any topic if you are weak a ,' ays Gejo Sreenivasan, Principal Consultant, Career Launcher. 'Since you have time enough to get your basics done, never leave a topic at this stage,' mentions Gupta. 'You must attain the basic knowledge in all the areas covered so that you can get the minimum percentile required in those topics,' Sreenivasan says.
Don't take full length mock tests
Do not go for full length mock tests at this stage. If you complete the preparation for a certain section, go for sectional mock tests. But that too, you should only go for, when you have gained a thorough conceptual knowledge of all the topics in a particular section. 'Do not take any Full length tests for sure till you have completed your course,' Gupta mentions.
