Three ways to spot fake perfume

Have you recently bought a bottle of perfume from a retailer that cannot be considered

to be trustworthy or reputable? By this I mean from a source such as market vendors or online from a store that is relatively unheard of? If this is the case and you are worried about the authenticity of the perfume that you are buying then you need to take note of the three main ways to tell if the perfume that you have bought is a real or a fake.

First of all you need to look at the perfume bottle and more specifically, the packaging that it comes in. Generally a brand new perfume will come in a box and then sealed in cellophane but the latter is not always the case. With the perfume that you have recently purchased, look for signs of tampering such as sticky tape, excessive amounts of glue and also marks of the box not being new. Is the quality of the materials poor and is there a batch number or bar code? Counterfeit perfume makers these days are getting very good at their job and therefore these will be hard to spot with some of the really good fakes but if you already know what the bottle and the packaging looks like, this will give you a head start.

When it comes to the bottle, how close to the original is it? Are there air bubbles in the glass of the bottle or is the glass not the correct color, shape, size etc. Is the cap fully sealed and with no signs of tampering? Make sure that the sprayer head is new and with no molding marks.

Last but certainly not least we come to the perfume itself. Obviously it should smell like the real deal but when you spray it, is there a very oily residue left behind? Are there signs of murkiness or floating items in the perfume? If any of these are the case and is joined by an unusual smell then you could be faced with a counterfeit bottle of perfume.
