Is remodeling your kitchen at the top of your to do list? If it is don't wait another minute to start your kitchen redesign project. Remodeling your kitchen may sound like a hassle, but in the end it will increase your home's value and look stunning when it's complete. There are many steps to take when redesigning your kitchen, but the step I want to focus on in this article is your tile backsplash design and layout.

A backsplash are the tiles that extend onto the wall from the kitchen counter protecting the wall from any water that may unintentionally be splashed. The backsplash helps keep the kitchen walls dry and protects it from developing water spots or other damage. When deciding where the backsplash tile will be placed you should decide to wrap it all around the room where there is counter space. This way you will give the room some continuity, and it will help make smaller spaces appear bigger.

When designing your backsplash tiles you want to pick a spot in your kitchen for a main design or color pattern. Since this will be the focal point of the entire kitchen, typically the design is located in a cooking area, such as the spot over the stove. There are many different ways you can use this area to draw the attention of your guests. One way is to rotate the tiles differently. You can lay them vertically for a more modern look or diagonally to create a unique design. You also want to use the more expensive tiles in this area, because this will be the part of the kitchen that people will notice the most.

Keep in mind it is very expensive to lay the same color tile all throughout your kitchen therefore it would be beneficial for you to decorate with tiles of complementing colors. Colors that are not exactly the same but look nice together will give your kitchen a different yet consistent look. If laying the tile yourself, make sure you plan ahead. You should test your lay out first to verify the tiles will lay out with perfectly even spacing. There should be no awkward space between the tile and cabinet. This will draw attention and make your tile job look messy. If you are not confident in your tile laying abilities it would be best to call a professional, otherwise your redesign job will result in a costly nightmare.
