We've all heard the statement that time is money. A cliched saying but remember, it's only clichs that become true.

To avoid time thieves that suck away your productivity whether self-inflicted or not, first plan your day out the night before or over your morning tea or coffee. Base your tasks on your short and long-term goals.

Then group your tasks into whether they are urgent, important, ones that can be delegated and ones that can be deleted.

Important tasks are ones that take you closer to your goals (I'm assuming that you have set your goals for the month and year). Those should be the main focus of your day.

In saying should I recognize that sometimes emergencies do come up that you have to address. Things like putting out fires -- literally and figuratively -- medical emergencies, or anything that requires your immediate attention. But make sure you define to everyone what is and isn't an emergency. Time Management Goals Examples

Tasks that can be delegated can include anything that needs to be done but doesn't take you closer to your goals. This can include mowing the lawn or housework. Make your kids earn their allowance or hire a landscaping or maid service.

Ones you can drop from your time management plan are things that take you away from your goals. Examples include computer games, watching television and reading email (get a good spam filter).

By that I don't mean that you shouldn't relax or take breaks every now and then because if you don't you'll burn out. Just make sure the bulk of your time is spent on your important tasks. Time Management Goals Examples
