Time to Play Guitar!

A long time ago I could paly a few chords on the guitar. I still have that guitar some 30 odd years later and it is still in perfect condition saved by its hard cover over the years.Still sounds in tune to my ear after being in storage for almost two years. Fantastic and under the guitar in its case were some of the song books and a course book I bought at the time I had last attempted my guitar learning comeback. Unfortunately I did not do it back then, but the books are still ready and waiting.I have had the guitar for some 30 odd years, I was maybe 14 when my parents bought it for me. Still looking mint. My uncle, a professional muso helped them out with the right guitar and it still has a wonderful tone. A six string acoustic guitar with steel strings. The strings were replaced 2 years ago and have had less than an hour play time since then.For my 45th birthday, Davina, my wife gave me a hard cover songbook from one of my favourite New Zealand artists, Dave Dobbyn. Until this week I had not really had a good look at it. I guess if I had I would have had to take a step towards finding that guitar and starting to learn to play a few chords again.So now I have the guitar, it is in tune and I have some material I love to get my teeth into, but can I play guitar?I have also been online looking at the various courses that could help me get some of those rusty old skills back. So many sites available and all of them offering some kind of lessons on how to play guitar for beginners right through to master guitarists.Looking at a few of the chords in some of my favourite songs from Dobbyn I see I do have some learning ahead of me. I can still remember and even get my fingers around the basic chords. I have attempted some of the picking I can remember on some of those old songs we used to practice. But I am rusty and in need of a kick start.Looking at these sites there is a common theme, especially when they talk about the beginners and yes I must be in that category again. That theme is do not get disgruntled, make sure you set aside time to practice, set yourself small goals and tick those off.In order to get back to play the guitar you must accomplish these few prerequisites.I am keen, now all I need is to make the plan, put aside the time and actually get on with it. The word procrastination springs to mind, but I am sure that could not really apply to me. After all I am ready to get back to starting on the track to play guitar.Step one accomplished, step two is make the time and pick up the guitar and have a go. I will update my blog and let you know how I get on and hopefully that might also spur you onto the road to play guitar again just like me.
