Yes, tinea capitis is also known as scalp ringworm. It is caused by dermatophytes, a fungus that resembles the molds. It mainly affects the children but, disappears during puberty. However, it knows no age boundaries and can be found among people of all age groups. However, the fungi responsible for causing the disease live or survive in warm or moist areas. People with injuries such as minor skin injuries or injuries on the scalp have increased chances of being infected by the infection. Besides, with poor hygiene and wet skin are also vulnerable to the infection. The biggest danger associated with the disease is that it is a contagious disease. The infection may spread from an infected person to a healthy person if he/she comes in direct contact with the infected person. One should remain careful not to use things like combs, hats and clothes of the infected person as it increase the chances of spreading the infection. The infection can also spread from pets especially from cats. When the infection is spread, certain symptoms start becoming visible which typically indicates the presence of the infectious disease. Some such symptoms include itching, appearance of small and black dots, scaly lesions.

It varies in different cases. In certain cases the infection may cause minor itching, whereas in certain cases, itching may not be caused at all. Thirdly, it removes hair from the scalp from some regions. As a result the bald patches appear. Fourthly, it also causes the lesions to appear. The lesions appear on the scalp region. In most of the cases, the lesions are filled with pus. If the symptoms become visible, a doctor should be contacted as quickly as possible.
