The best potluck recipes are those that have a little history behind them

. There's of course nothing wrong with putting a new recipe into the mix once in awhile but when you host a potluck dinner everyone wants to eat those everlasting favorites too. It's for that reason that it's a good fun idea to bring along the potluck recipe that's sure to be asked for. Don't make my mistake though ask the hostess to make sure someone else isn't already bringing your dish.

You should try to prepare no more than a few hours ahead of time if it's possible for you to do so. There are going to be some exceptions to that of course. A couple examples would be if you're making chili in the crock pot you're going to need more time so go ahead and prepare the night before. The other example is if you're making something that needs to be frozen or chilled it will need more time so you should do that the night before so it can set overnight. The night before is ok for these things but obviously you wouldn't want to make them days in advance.

Signature potluck recipes are the dishes that are definitely sure to be recognized by both the guests and the hostess. It's those dishes that always leave them wanting more. If you're someone that always brings the same dish and it's gone in a flash and before everything else one piece of advice is, don't mess with perfection. It's likely that your same dish is going to be expected.

Additionally, you should be sure that no matter which of the potluck recipes you choose make sure that you're using ingredients that are fresh. It's something that'll make your dishes all that more appealing. Everyone wants to eat potluck recipes that are chalk full of fresh ingredients. You'll continue to be sure that you're the hit of the party and your food will always be gone and not to the trash can.


Be sure that you bring insulated containers. For instance, a casserole which should be served hot needs to be brought in an insulated dish that will keep it hot. You should also look at an insulated carrying case that will help you keep your potluck dish hot until it's ready to be served. You can also use a crock pot which would allow you to reheat it when you get to the party. Along with keeping the hot dished hot you should keep the cold dishes cold. If it needs to email cold then you should bring a large container along with some ice for your potluck dish. You can placed the large container on the table and then add some cubes of ice in and after that you can set the food dish on top of the ice. Make sure that you leave enough room to make sure that you can put ice cubes in-between the two containers. If you do the packing in this manner you'll be able to keep the dish cold for at least a few hours.
