Tips to Avoid Tiredness During Menstrual Cycle

It's a known fact that more and more people these days are suffering from severe tiredness or fatigue

. This condition can be a result of our lifestyle choices - what we eat and how we sleep and exercise - or medical or health factors and conditions. It is not known for sure that severe tiredness affects more women than men, but it is common knowledge that women have menstrual cycle or period.

The plunge in the hormone estrogen or the fluctuation of hormone levels before or during this female reproductive cycle causes numerous physical and emotional symptoms. Aside from severe tiredness, women usually feel more tense and angry, gain water weight and become bloated, feel sleepy and dizzy and experience pain or cramps in their belly, back or legs. These symptoms disappear the first few days of the period.

Some women have no pain or problems during their menstrual period, but for those who experience these symptoms, they better check their health and lifestyle. Severe tiredness during menstruation can be because of poor dietary choices and dietary deficiency of vitamins B-12 and B-6, folic acid and magnesium. It can also be a sign of medical disorders or conditions like anemia or iron deficiency.

There are several things and steps that can help women avoid this condition and relieve their discomfort. To get rid of severe tiredness and the other symptoms, the ladies out there should avoid eating fast or junk foods and the foods they call "comfort foods," such as chips, chocolates and fries. They should also lessen or limit their caffeine intake. Coffee, cola and tea can cause insomnia and dehydration and this can lead to irritability and headaches.

It's always best to eat a healthy diet. Eat iron-rich foods and fruits such as raisins, plums and bananas; veggies such as broccoli, beans, spinach and leafy greens; and protein sources like tofu, fish and whole grains. Eating nuts like cashews and almonds is also good. These are high in magnesium and vitamins E, B-12 and B-6 that can help eliminate severe tiredness.

Women should get all the vitamins, iron and antioxidants that they can get during their period, so drinking fresh fruit and vegetable juices is highly recommended. They should try orange, beet and carrot juices. Of course, drinking lots of water is always good. To avoid dehydration and severe tiredness during their menstrual period, women should drink up.

Regular exercise, less stress, a warm bath and pain-relieving medicines also help in easing discomfort during menses. Consultation with the doctor is a must, especially if menstrual periods are very heavy. Women who take prescription drugs and supplements should also see their doctor. Some medicines can cause tiredness and may interfere with iron and vitamin B absorption.
