, and normal every day activities are becoming more and more difficult? If this is the case with your dog, then you'll be happy to know that there are a number of things you can do to keep him happy and healthy as he goes through the aging process.

One of the first things you'll want to monitor is your dogs weight. Is he showing signs of obesity in his old age? If so, you'll want to change his diet in order to get him back to a healthy weight if you want to avoid complications such as diabetes, arthritis, joint pain, and more.

You can keep your dogs weight in check by eliminating treats or greatly reducing the number of treats that are given to him. It's OK to give him a treat once in a while, but too many is not good. You'll also want to make sure that he is getting a healthy amount of food every day and not getting fed too much.

When your dog gets older, his teeth will become more and more weak which will make it harder for him to eat dry dog food. When this becomes clear to you then you can consider changing to a canned food. Canned food is much easier for dogs to eat, plus it contains the same essential vitamins and nutrients that dogs need.

Keep an eye on children when they are around your aging dog because a lot of times children like to feed them whatever they can. This obviously is not helpful when you're trying to control your dog's diet so try to prevent this type of activity.

Water is also a very important part of your dog's every day life and you want to always have plenty of water available for your dog to drink. Consider keeping water in a few areas of the house or outside of the house so that your aging dog can easily get a drink when he wants to.

Take your dog on daily walks. This activity is so important for an aging dog because it helps circulation and can also help the digestion process. Not only that, it helps keep your dog physically fit and may help stretch out sore, aching muscles.

Aging can be a tough process for your dog or any pet for that matter. If you want to make sure that your dog is healthy and happy during his or her aging process, then keep these few things in mind and you'll be just fine.
